Carpe Diem began life as an inky-black comedy-thriller about philosophy, anthropology and a secretive debating society based on a quiet street in Bloomsbury, and very definitely aimed at adults. The initial idea is simple: a very disparate group of people are invited to a dinner at a debating society, where they see a bizarre series of events which, in isolation, they cannot understand or interpret correctly. The novel is about these characters gradually joining forces to gain further insights, and in so doing bounce off each other in ways that may or may not be predictable… therein lies the mystery!
